The world is in ruins. There is no hope left to start a new life on this planet after what has happened. Those that have the chance depart from this desolate place to populate a different planet. Farewell, cruel world.

About two years ago, I took a photo of a plane that was circling at around 10km altitude. The photo itself doesn't look that special at all; but the colors in that shot came out so amazing that they provide a great color-palette. In fact, Calamity is similarly based on that photo.

Enjoy! :)

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. There's a movie called 'Elysium' that's coming out this year starring Matt Damon, I think it's plot is similar to what we were talking about.

This is just amazing. And you know, I sometimes have visions that this will be our actual fate someday, that we will destroy our own world and will be forced to go somewhere else (if there's any of us left).

I think so, too! Looking at the potential mankind has to destroy the world makes it the most likely thing to happen. And who knows if we'll then be able to escape at all?

We may have the technology to escape, but one day it may be too late if our current problems (economic decline, climate change, exploitation) continue to worsen.

Also, the question is who and how many are able to leave. Looking at the prices to shoot somebody up into space, there wouldn't be too many people able to pay for it. This assumes that the economical system has not altered, though. In a state of anarchy, things would become much more unpredictable. Either way, I assume that, from the whole world population, only a handful ever gets the chance to leave.

And I bet the people with the most money (the greedy nut jobs) will get first pick. And besides, how are you supposed to move eight or nine billion people off of a planet!

Precisely. The monetary issue will limit it to probably less than 10000 people being able to financially afford a travel. And even if anybody was able to pay for it, there is no way to shoot them all into space. I read an interesting article about something related: [link] (true, it's not exactly our case but especially the ending gives a rough overview of the problems we face).
